Most board games have some mechanic that decides who the 1st player is and sometimes their choosing mechanism can be as simple as who rolls the highest amount on a die or as complex as who had the worst day so far. One thing is for certain everyone and every game has their own favourite, and most importantly, fair way to decide player 1. That is until a friend introduced me to an amazing little Smartphone app called “Chwazi Finger Chooser”. Chwazi means “choose” in Haitian Creole (derived from French “Choisir”) and what a helpful little app this is! Everyone around the table places their finger on the screen of the phone and depending on the settings the phone will randomly choose which player would start first or which group they belong to.
The app has 2 settings Fingers and Groups. The Fingers setting chooses a random finger or multiple fingers (up to five) that is currently touching the screen. They also included a Groups setting. If you have to split people into random groups, you simply select the number of groups you require (up to five) and the app will split everyone into groups. The maximum amount of people the app will support depends on the device. Personally with my Samsung Galaxy S6 I ran out of space on the screen before it stopped picking up new fingers.
One of the simple features of the app that I enjoyed was the sound effects it made while choosing. This app is definitely my default starting player chooser.
On the Google Play Store users has given the app a rating of 4.7 out of 5.0 (610 total ratings)
On the iTunes app Store users has given the app a rating of 4.5 out of 5.0 (13 total ratings for the current version)
